Aviation Consultant

As an Aviation Technical Solutions Architect, you will be part of the Aviation team that implements and develops solutions for Columbus customers. Your role will be vital in deciding on the best solution for the customer requirements and to ensure that those solutions are documented to a high technical level to allow development to be undertaken. You will also be pivotal in ensuring that the solution and development is carried out through the application of Columbus formalised methods and procedures (best practices), optimising quality and efficiency always. Depending on workload, you will also take responsibility for development activities.

Participate in successful project implementations.

  • Understand and apply Columbus’ formalised methods and procedures for project implementation.
  • Understand business requirements from the customer and liaise with the project manager / business analyst to provide accurate high-level estimates, with assumptions.
  • Provide the solution expertise required to support new and existing customer requirements.
  • Define gaps between our solutions and customer needs.
  • Analyse statements of requirements by customer.
  • Design outline solutions to meet specific requirements and to fill gap(s)
  • Design the overall solution to meet the customers’ needs
  • Demonstrate the solutions to customer.
  • Ability to create clear and concise solution design documents in a form of Functional Design Specification (FDS), allowing both developers and QA to understand and work from.
  • Ability to provide accurate estimates for solutions required by the customer.
  • The need to be able to undertake JAVA and HTML development of the solution.
  • Working with an industry standard Source control system to maintain proper code base
  • Adheres to industry best practice around development process and execution, Able to follow quality assurance process and make suggestions for improvements to such.
  • Assist other team members in understanding business and technical requirements.
  • Challenge customer requests for modifications and consider workarounds or alternatives and assist with the cost benefit analysis.
  • Liaise with the testing teams to ensure that acceptance testing is carried out on the specification, customisations and the integration of various system components.
  • Resolving customer queries / issues via support tickets (if required).

Key Skills

  • Skilled in Java (Version 1.6 or onwards)
  • Skilled in Apache Tomcat (Version 6.0 / 7.0 or onwards), Eclipse (Indigo – Kepler or later),
  • Exposure in Oracle WebLogic Server, Visual Studio Team Services, Linux Bash Shell experience (Red Hat Linux) and understanding of the Linux OS, Windows (10) and of Windows Server (2012/2012R2 and then possibly 2003 also), Oracle SQL databases, XML knowledge (including xsds), HTML/CSS
  • Ability to develop / understand end to end solution (involving multiple applications)
  • Ability to review support logs and check current operation to determine what the resolution should be
  • Ability to design and document software applications with minimal supervision
  • Ability to train and lead staff in a face to face or remote environment
  • Ability to analyse requirements and propose suitable solutions
  • Attention to Detail, commercially astute, Displays competent and professional business behaviour and appearance
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, target driven environment
  • Positive, mature attitude
  • Polite, courteous and friendly manner
  • Organised and able to work under pressure
  • Good knowledge of development processes and project delivery methodology

Relevant Experience

  • Knowledge and experience working on Aviation Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO)
  • Strong knowledge of maintenance procedures, policies and Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR’s), especially for heavy maintenance.
  • Aircraft Maintenance Industry knowledge and experience
  • Experience working with and in MRO maintenance software systems
  • Has acted as liaison between end-users, process owners and software development teams including functioning as Subject Matter Expert (SME) in translating requirements to software development teams.
  • Experience of working with western customers
