Promoting Women in Consultancy
How did you get into Consultancy?
After working on an implementation as an end user 10 years ago, one of the contractors we worked on the Project with offered me a role as a Finance consultant.
What do you love about the industry and what you do?
Engaging in learning and problem-solving activities. Opportunities to Enhance your skills and knowledge but also the opportunity to meet new people and build valuable connections.
What would your advice be to anyone starting out?
Ask questions, learn from the Senior consultants you work with. Don’t be worried if you can’t answer a question on the spot – there's no harm in saying you will get back to the customer.
As a working Mum, how do Columbus accommodate work/life balance?
One of the reasons I enjoy working for Columbus is the fact that they understand we have a home life. I am allowed the flexibility when needed regarding my daughter, but will always ensure I put in the hours to make up for anything (even though my manager tells me off for working too many hours sometimes) 😊
What made you decide to switch to the Consultancy industry?
A chance to try something new. Being an Accountant in my past life, I have worked in manufacturing, not for profit, import and distribution, service industry. Being an accountant, each month was pretty much the same as the last just different numbers!
What appealed to you about joining Columbus?
Previous colleagues moving to Columbus and being positive about their role and the company - no day being the same, problem solving, and meeting new people!
What advice would you give to anyone trying to get into the consulting industry?
Come into the industry with a mindset that not each day will be the same. Differences from Customer to Customer provide a great learning.
