Promoting Women in Consultancy
How did you get into Consultancy?
I was made redundant from my job and decided to use the time to find an entry opportunity to move in to a consultancy role. I have always been interested in consultancy and redundancy gave me the opportunity to switch at the right time in my life.
What do you love about the industry and what you do?
The thing I love most about my role in consultancy is the energy and the speed at which things change and develop. It always feels as if we are working at the forefront of the latest innovations in business applications technology.
What would your advice be to anyone starting out?
Don’t feel that you need to know everything.
- You can’t...
but rather be open to new experiences and learning something new every day.
How do Columbus accommodate work/life balance?
Living in Scotland there has always been less opportunities within Consultancy local to me. With Columbus I love being able to work from home as this allows me to balance my work and home life more effectively.
What other industries did you work in before you came into Consultancy?
I started my career as an administrator in a business consultancy company, I then went on to work as recruitment consultant, then a sales analyst and a marketing manager in the construction & manufacturing industries which introduced me to the systems before becoming a Functional Consultant.
What appealed to you about joining Columbus?
I enjoy working with lots of different teams, companies, and industries and you absolutely get that at Columbus. You get to work together towards a shared goal, and helping customers to understand and adopt the new technology. The variety; every day is different. The opportunities to grow and learn as well as using my experience to advise customers and colleagues.
What would you give to anyone trying to get into the consulting industry?
Go for it! Get Microsoft (MS) certified and try to get involved in a technology project first, so that you understand/appreciate the processes involved in delivering a successful IT project.
